Join the 100 Envelope Savings Challenge

Starting March 1st, commit to a simple but powerful habit that can transform your finances.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Label Envelopes: Get 100 envelopes and number them from 1 to 100.

  2. Daily Selection: Each day for 100 days, choose one envelope. You can do this in order or pick one randomly for more of a surprise.

  3. Deposit Cash: The number on the envelope is the dollar amount you must put inside. For example, if you pick envelope #42, you put in $42.

  4. Reach the Goal: After filling all 100 envelopes, you will have exactly $5,050 (the sum of 1 through 100).

What if I miss a day?
No stress. Simply pick up where you left off.

Progress, not Perfection.

Adaptations & Variations

If the standard version is too aggressive for your budget, there are several ways to customize it:

  • Digital Version: Instead of physical cash, use a savings tracker and transfer the daily amount into a high-yield savings account.

  • Smaller Goals: Use only 50 envelopes (numbered 1–50) to save $1,275.

  • Extended Timeframe: Fill two envelopes per week instead of one daily to make the financial burden more manageable.

  • The $10,000 Goal: Multiply each envelope number by two (envelope #1 gets $2, #100 gets $200) to save $10,100.

Tips for Success

  • Shuffle Often: Mixing the envelopes helps prevent "sticker shock" if you accidentally pull several high-numbered envelopes (like $80–$100) in a row.

  • Use a Binder: Many people use a specialized savings binder with numbered pockets to keep the cash organized and visible.

  • Cut Expenses: To find the extra cash, consider temporary cuts like skipping dining out or canceling unused subscriptions during the 100-day period.

This challenge is about more than money. It’s about building discipline, creating breathing room, and proving to yourself that consistency creates results.

Small daily steps → Huge financial wins.
